Powertrain and Performance

The heart of the Gladiator 4xe is the plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 270 horsepower and 279 pound-feet of torque, connected to a pair of electric motors. One motor generator will take the place of the alternator, creating 44 horsepower and 39 pound-feet of torque. The second, bigger motor is mounted to the transmission and generates 134 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque.

A 14.0-kilowatt battery may be another component and the combined output should be 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The acceleration in the Gladiator 4xe hasn't been released but a similar four-door Wrangler 4xe can reach 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. Mount Pleasant and Alma buyers can expect that the Gladiator 4xe will be in the same performance ballpark.

It's possible that the 2025 Gladiator 4xe may have a larger battery pack than the Wrangler 4xe's 17.3-kilowatt unit and might give you a little more driving range than the Wrangler hybrid. But one source expects thenew Gladiator 4xe will operate with a 14.0-killowatt battery that will deliver 21 miles of electric-only range.

Interior highlights

The Gladiator 4xe is expected to come with an upright dashboard similar to the Jeep Wrangler's along with waterproof push-button start. Optional convenience features like a heated steering wheel and heated front seats are also expected to be part of the package. The stretched wheelbase on the Gladiator will provide more back seat legroom than the four-door Wrangler. The cabin will include several places where Standish and Gladwin owners can store a smartphone. The back seats can be stored and securely locked down when you're about to travel over especially rugged terrain.
