A timing belt synchronizes the crankshaft and the camshaft. These belts, made of strong rubber interwoven with reinforced-nylon cords, are subject to tremendous pressure and force. The vehicle manufacturer recommends the mileage when a timing belt is due for replacement, for example, 80,000 to 90,000 miles.
